Meaning & Joy In Life

There is a happiness that the world can offer you, but it is a fragile happiness.  If your life is wrapped up in this world only, then you are never more than one phone call, or doctors visit, or life crisis away from utter despair. Do you want something more for yourself or your family? If so, we invite you to join us for a sermon series this Fall that considers why only Jesus can provide us with sustainable joy and lasting meaning.

Meaning and Joy in Life - Lessons from Ecclesiastes, Sunday Mornings.

Is God Blessing You For This Purpose?

God blesses people in order that they may become a blessing to others. We see this pattern established in the call of Abraham. God promised to bless him and his descendants in order that through them He might bless all the nations of the earth. This principle is celebrated in Psalm 67 and illustrated in the church at Antioch.

Here at Lost River, we have been abundantly blessed and are seeking to use that blessing to enlarge our impact on the world for Christ. The elders are asking all members of the Lost River congregation to prayerfully consider how God might use them more effectively in bringing the blessing of the gospel to the nations.

Specifically we are asking everyone to humbly ask God if they could be used by Him to go preach the gospel somewhere that is largely unreached for a period of a year or more. Or, if they could be used to better uphold those who may be willing to go through increased emotional, financial and spiritual support.

For more information on this initiative, please listen to the sermon from Sunday Morning September the 18th. Or, read the announcement made by the elders, that is available in the foyer.

Sermon Notes - Upon This Rock, I Will Build My Church

Upon This Rock, I Will Build My Church

Jesus makes a vital connection between who He is and what the church is. If the church is built By Jesus, On Jesus and For Jesus, how could we ever understand the church without understanding Him?  This is why Jesus begins the famous discussion about the founding of the church in Matthew 16:13-18, by asking, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” They responded by citing the variety of opinions people held about Him. Then Jesus makes the question pointed and personal, “Who do you say that I am?” I hope that you can say with Peter, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Based on this great confession of faith the following may be affirmed:

Jesus Christ is the Rock upon which the church is built (Matthew 16:18). No mere human foundation will do. Only the sinless Son of God could be a sufficient cornerstone for the church.

The church is made of people who are willing to confess Jesus as the Son of God (Matthew 10:32-33). This is the decisive factor as to who is fit to be included in the church, not your race, sex, economic or social status, but do you confess and obey Jesus as Lord?

There is no force in the universe that can prevent Jesus from building His church (Matthew 16:18). Not even the gates of Hades can prevent Jesus from accomplishing His goal. In His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus defeated the seemingly invincible powers of sin, death and Satan. Furthermore, Jesus promises to share His victory with all who come to be identified with Him!

Are you building your life on the Rock?

Steadfast Love

Psalm 36

5 Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.

6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD.
